I wake up every morning with the calming sound of birds chirping. I
am delighted with the fresh air that surrounds me, the whisper of the
morning dew and the radiant light touching my skin. My soul is relaxed as
waves of the sea roll unto the shore. It is comforting as it touches my feet. I
can feel the rhythm of trees dancing and the wind swaying. It feels like
paradise. But in just a snap everything turns black. All I can see is sorrow,
suffering, grief, and chaos. And for me to realize that it is just a dream, a
dream worth remembering.
A progressive Philippines, reconciliation among all the people on
earth, harmonious living, a clean surrounding, more jobs for Filipinos and
most of all extinction of poverty within our country. Aren't all of these
supposed to be the main priorities of our politicians nowadays? They keep
on promising things they couldn't even accomplish. Full of lies in every
statement which brings us hope that someday our country would be in better
hands. But as you can see, what had happened was truly the opposite!
Corruption, scandals, poverty, pollution and of course the "once forgotten
yet never ending issue," the Charter Change! Hearing these words awakens
my eye to the reality that dreaming for us Filipinos to have a better future
could now be considered an illusion!
"My dear countrymen, from now on I will give you hope for a better
future. As I proceed unto office, I will work hard to give you a Philippines
free from poverty, free from starvation and free from violence." Those are
the popular speeches of our politicians in the Philippines. But for me, putting
them unto office would only mean that we are again going to have a burden,
we will suffer from different problems of our country, and sacrifices will be
made because corruption will continue to dominate our country.
If I were to be asked where corruption came from, I would firmly say
that corruption comes from people who only care for their own interests.
Without greedy people controlling our government there would be no
corruption, where would be no mind-boggling protest, no problems for us to
face regarding our government and most especially there will be no broken
promises.
As a youth, I dream of simple things. I aim for my big dreams and I
most especially want to have a bright future. I believe that in a problem there
is always a solution and every hopes and dreams would be pursued if you
just have faith. If corruption comes from selfish politicians, we should not
put into office those people who only run for popularity and for money. We
should choose not a better politician but really the best! Not only by
intelligence but also by heart. With this as a start, I know we can make a
change. A change that could be a simple solution to our problems and a
simple a reason that could help grant our wishes to have a better country.
All I want is to have a Philippines strongly united, living in peace and
harmony, a country free from corruption and most especially a country
without starvation and poverty. A simple change can make all of it happen!
